The Shamblin lab seeks laboratory assistants for wildlife and fisheries sample processing, DNA extractions, and data calling for population genetic analyses. This position will assist graduate students and the lab manager with sample tracking, processing of blood, eggshell, skin, fin clips, and swab samples, and DNA extractions for genotyping and sequencing for fish and wildlife species of conservation concern. This position will also assist the PI with data calling with microsatellite and sequencing projects. Sample archiving and general laboratory maintenance are expected.
Candidates should be available to work 30-40 hours weekly if not taking classes or 15-20 hours weekly if taking classes during the summer. Please make your summer availability clear in your cover letter.
Candidates pursuing a BS degree in biology, genetics, marine science, or wildlife/fisheries preferred. Previous laboratory experience is a plus, but not necessary.
Ideal candidates work well independently or in groups. Attention to detail is critical, despite repetitious tasks. Good organizational and interpersonal skills are essential.
This position is primarily laboratory based. Candidates will sit or stand at the bench for extended periods. This position may occasionally lift boxes up to 40 pounds.
