Job summary

Central Power Systems & Services in Idaho seeks a Critical Power Technician to service standby generators, automatic transfer switches, switchgear and related accessories. Normal shift is 7AM–4PM with overtime for field service and a rotating after-hours on-call.

Candidates should have 2+ years in high-voltage generator maintenance (CAT, Kohler, Cummins) and strong electrical/mechanical knowledge. Willingness to travel overnight and grow technical skills is required.

Qualifications

  • Two years of high voltage generator maintenance experience.
  • Electrical and mechanical knowledge of diesel-powered generators.
  • Diploma or equivalent; technical training preferred.
  • Willingness to travel overnight and be on-call.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of critical power systems installation, start-up and commissioning.
  • Perform diagnostic and repair procedures on PLCs, AC/DC, and switchgear.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance on generators, gas and diesel engines, and transfer switches.
  • Coordinate with installing electrical contractors and oversee commissioning issues.
  • Become familiar with off-site work and mining site environments.
  • Test and troubleshoot generators of various sizes.

Position Title: Critical Power TechnicianReporting to: Service ManagerDepartment: ServiceCentral Power Systems & Services is a privately held company with deep roots going back to 1954. We are looking for a Critical Power Technician to help support that mission.Job SummaryWe service all brands of emergency standby generators, as well as automatic transfer switches, switchgear, and other related accessories. The normal working shift is 7AM to 4PM. However, with field service, the opportunity for overtime is common. A candidate should be willing and able to work overtime as needed. Once a technician has proved capable of working in the field solo, they will be part of our rotating after-hours on-call calendar.Ideally, we are looking for candidates who have some degree of prior experience with generator sets, diesel & gaseous engines, and industrial / commercial electrical distribution.
