Job summary

Torrey Holistics is seeking a Generator Service Technician to perform service, maintenance, troubleshooting, testing, and repair of generator systems from 2KW to 3MW in shop and field environments. Job description

Generator Service TechnicianPosition SummaryThe Generator Service Technician is responsible for performing service, maintenance, troubleshooting, testing, and repair of generator systems ranging from 2KW to 3MW in both shop and field environments. The ideal candidate is motivated, mechanically and electrically inclined, customer-focused, and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.The successful candidate should have several years of generator industry experience, or comparable experience through military, automotive, transportation, commercial electrical, or related technical fields. Experience with automatic and static transfer switches, as well as multiple-unit paralleling systems, is highly preferred.Key ResponsibilitiesPerform generator service and maintenance in shop and field environments.Perform engine services, load testing, ATS testing and repair, generator-end testing, and complete system evaluations.Troubleshoot diesel and gaseous fuel systems and perform minor and major engine repairs.Diagnose electrical, mechanical, engine, and component/attachment problems.Read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings, schematics, technical manuals, and service literature.Properly use diagnostic equipment, tooling, and technical literature to troubleshoot machine systems and components.Evaluate parts for reusability and complete repairs in accordance with manufacturer specifications and guidelines.Diagnose, source, and install replacement parts as required.Install complete generator sets and associated peripheral equipment using materials and specifications provided by engineering.Work primarily off-site while maintaining a high level of productivity with minimal supervision.Complete service reports accurately, thoroughly, and legibly.Maintain accountability for quality and ensure all work meets established standards and procedures.Work with and provide direction to other technicians and apprentices to ensure timely, high-quality repairs.Share technical knowledge, experience, and troubleshooting techniques with fellow technicians.Communicate effectively with customers by explaining maintenance issues, recommended repairs, and technical information in an understandable manner.Represent the company professionally and maintain a positive, customer-focused attitude.Participate in after-hours on-call technician rotations.Work irregular hours, including weekends and holidays, as required.Travel out of town occasionally, including overnight stays.Safely operate heavy equipment, forklifts, and mobile cranes in accordance with OSHA requirements.Follow all company policies, safety procedures, and established work practices.Perform other duties as assigned to meet business needs.Required QualificationsSeveral years of experience in the generator service industry or equivalent military/technical experience.Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting aptitude.Experience performing maintenance and repairs on diesel and/or gaseous engines.Ability to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical systems.Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings.Basic written and verbal communication skills.Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.Ability to communicate effectively with customers, coworkers, technicians, and apprentices.Ability to safely and properly use common hand tools and diagnostic equipment.Must possess basic hand tools, including a multimeter, standard and metric socket and wrench sets, screwdrivers, Allen wrenches, pliers, crimpers, and similar tools.Ability to follow established policies, procedures, and manufacturer repair guidelines.Ability to maintain accurate service documentation and reports.Good physical condition with the ability to perform field service work.Valid driver's license and ability to travel to customer locations.Willingness to work weekends, holidays, irregular hours, and participate in an on-call rotation.Willingness to travel occasionally and stay overnight as required.Preferred QualificationsExperience with automatic transfer switches (ATS).Experience with static transfer switches.Experience with multiple-unit paralleling systems.Technical or vocational schooling in electrical, mechanical, automotive, diesel, transportation, or related fields.Commercial or residential electrical experience.Military mechanical or electrical experience.Experience servicing generator systems from 2KW to 3MW.Experience with both diesel and gaseous-fueled generator systems.Experience with load banks and generator testing equipment.OSHA-related equipment operation experience.Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesStrong mechanical and electrical aptitude.Ability to diagnose complex engine and electrical problems.Ability to use diagnostic tools and technical documentation effectively.Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.Ability to discuss abstract or complicated technical problems with peers and industry professionals.Willingness and ability to learn new technologies and systems.Desire to share technical knowledge and experience with other technicians.Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.Positive attitude and willingness to assist customers in resolving maintenance and repair issues.Ability to lead or direct other technicians and apprentices when needed.Ability to prioritize and complete work efficiently while maintaining safety and quality standards.Work Environment & Physical RequirementsWork is performed both in a shop environment and at customer/job sites.Position requires frequent travel to field locations.May require overnight travel and extended or irregular work hours.Must be available for emergency and after-hours service as part of the on-call rotation.Must be capable of working around operating engines, electrical equipment, heavy machinery, fuel systems, and industrial environments.Must be able to safely operate or work around forklifts, mobile cranes, and other heavy equipment.Must be able to use hand tools and diagnostic equipment safely and effectively.Must comply with all applicable OSHA and company safety requirements.Customer Service ExpectationsThe Generator Service Technician is a key representative of the company in the field.
