Carilion Clinic in Roanoke, Virginia, is seeking a General Surgery APP (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to join a busy practice of 13 general surgeons. The role offers a four‑day workweek with four 10‑hour shifts, providing a balance of clinical responsibility and schedule flexibility.

The ideal APP thrives in a team-based environment, demonstrates strong clinical judgment, and can manage diverse general surgery patients.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing and Nurse Practitioner program or an accredited Physician Assistant program.
• Licensed or eligible for licensure as an Advanced Practice Provider in Virginia; RN license for NPs in Virginia may be required.
• Current BLS; PALS/NRP/ACLS as appropriate to position.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive care for general surgery patients in collaboration with general surgeons.
• Perform evaluations, histories and physicals, and develop assessment and treatment plans.
• Participate in preoperative and postoperative management.
• Evaluate postoperative concerns and coordinate care with the surgical team.
• Order and interpret labs and imaging within scope of practice.
• Educate patients and families on procedures, recovery, wound care, medications, and follow-up.
• Assist with clinical procedures within training and scope of practice.
• Facilitate communication among surgeons, nursing teams, and consultants.
• Support continuity of care, throughput, and timely follow-up for General Surgery.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation.
• Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
