Main Purpose of the Role:
The Léman Manhattan Preparatory School Early Childhood/Elementary School General Music Teacher is part of an exciting and collaborative Fine Arts Department and the Early Childhood/Elementary School Division. The Early Childhood/Elementary School General Music Teacher is highly qualified and motivated to teach elementary general music, violin, and chorus. They are positive, collaborative, creative, organized, and passionate about student learning. They are an effective communicator and a reflective practitioner. They demonstrate a commitment to anti-bias and anti-racism work and to fostering an inclusive learning community. Key Responsibilities:
(The primary tasks, functions and deliverables of the role)
Teaches PreK3 through 3rd grade general music classes (violin component in grades 1 -3)
Directs 4th and 5th Grade Chorus ensembles
Differentiates repertoire and teaching techniques to meet student needs
Coordinates rehearsals and concerts
Maintains consistent communication with families
Maintains instruments/equipment and documents inventory
Maintains choral music library
Collaborates and contributes as a team member of the Fine Arts Department as well as the Early Childhood and Lower School faculty
Utilizes learning management and student information systems provided by the school
Presents a positive role model for students that supports the mission of the school; demonstrates behavior that is professional and ethical as identified in Employee Handbook (inside and outside of school)
Continues to grow professionally by participating in educational opportunities, reads professional publications, and participates in professional organizations
Demonstrates flexibility and a positive attitude toward new challenges and growth opportunities
Participates in school-wide events; attends during and after-school functions in support of school community
Completes a minimum of two duties as assigned by Division Head (number of duties may vary depending on role)
Attends and participates in all required faculty and staff meetings and serves on school committees as required
Completes responsibilities as assigned by Division Head or direct supervisor based on student and school needs
Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education (Master’s Degree preferred)
Experience in teaching general music at the early childhood and elementary levels
Experience in directing elementary choral ensembles
Strong piano skills
Elementary level violin skills preferred
Familiarity with music education curriculum design
