This position is covered under New York State Military Law and not in the Classified Service. Civil Service employees will lose seniority if selected.
General Mechanics are assigned to various programs and areas, sometimes requiring specialized knowledge. They perform journeyman work in carpentry, including skilled and semi-skilled duties in maintenance.
Responsibilities include building, repairing, and installing fixtures and structures, maintaining facility structures, working with various materials, installing hardware, performing millwork, maintaining tools and machinery, and ensuring safety and compliance standards.
Minimum qualifications include completion of a NYS two-year Carpenter Traineeship or equivalent, or four years of full-time experience in carpentry, along with a high school diploma or GED. Additional requirements include physical ability, safety knowledge, and computer skills.
Starting rate: $50,425; Job rate: $61,548. All hires start at the beginning rate unless prior experience qualifies for a step increase.
