Job summary

Apex Service Partners in Minnesota offers a GM in Training program designed to develop leaders ready to run a home services business. You will train with established General Managers in the Minneapolis or Duluth market, gaining hands-on exposure to operations, finance, and people leadership.

You'll relocate within Minnesota as opportunities arise, build teams across HVAC, Plumbing, and Electrical services, and advance toward a future General Manager role with a growth-oriented, national platform.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience leading teams in service/operations or fast-paced environments.
• Proven ability to develop teams, drive execution, and lead through change.
• Strong business acumen with quantitative decision-making.

Responsibilities

• Train under an experienced General Manager and learn Apex's operating playbook.
• Lead a department's day-to-day operations and own performance.
• Develop and execute growth, profitability, and operational strategies.
• Gain hands-on experience across HVAC, Plumbing, and Electrical service operations.
• Deliver a gold standard customer experience through coaching and data-driven decisions.
• Build high-performing teams through leadership, development, and engagement.

Overview

At Apex Service Partners, we're offering a unique opportunity for a driven leader to develop alongside top-performing General Managers and gain hands-on experience running a successful trades business before stepping into a General Manager role of your own.

This position is based in Minnesota and is designed for emerging business leaders who are eager to learn every facet of operating a successful home services company. During the training period, you'll work directly alongside an established General Manager in either the Minneapolis or Duluth market, gaining firsthand exposure to the leadership, operational, financial, and cultural drivers of a high-performing business.

We're looking for leaders who are excited by the opportunity to build teams, drive performance, improve operations, and make a meaningful impact on a growing organization.

This role is part of our General Manager in Training program and is intended to prepare future General Managers for leadership opportunities across Minnesota. Candidates must be open to relocation within the Minnesota market upon successful completion of General Manager University and the training program, based on business needs and available General Manager openings.

What You'll Do

• Train under an experienced General Manager and learn Apex's proven operating playbook
• Take ownership of a department and lead day-to-day operations
• Develop and execute strategies to drive growth, profitability, and operational performance
• Gain hands-on experience across HVAC, Plumbing, and Electrical service operations
• Deliver a gold standard customer experience through coaching, accountability, and data-driven decision-making
• Build high-performing teams through effective leadership, development, and employee engagement
• Lead recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and talent development initiatives
• Learn key financial disciplines including budgeting, forecasting, cost management, and P&L accountability
• Partner with business leaders to identify operational improvement opportunities and execute growth initiatives
• Serve as a visible, hands-on leader with a strong presence in the business
• Develop the skills and experience necessary to successfully lead a location as a future General Manager

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years of experience leading people, processes, and performance in a service, operations, field services, distribution, logistics, retail, manufacturing, construction, military, or other fast-paced environment
• Bachelor's degree required; MBA preferred
• Direct P&L exposure preferred, or strong operational leadership experience with accountability for business results
• Proven ability to develop teams, drive execution, and lead through change
• Strong business acumen and a desire to eventually lead an entire operation
• Playbook-driven leadership style with a bias for action and continuous improvement
• Strong interpersonal, coaching, and communication skills
• High energy, adaptability, and a proven ability to deliver results in a growth-oriented environment
• Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
• Deep respect for the Skilled Trades and a passion for developing people
• Willingness to relocate within Minnesota as future General Manager opportunities become available
