Job summary

Porter Pipe & Supply in Columbus, OH is seeking a General Manager to drive the launch and long-term performance of our new Columbus Distribution Center. This hands-on leader will build the team, shape operations, and establish Porter Pipe’s presence in Ohio.

You will oversee warehousing, dispatch, sales counters, and branch functions while managing budgets and the P&L, safety, and service standards. Collaborating with sales, executives, and vendors and guiding growth strategies will be key to

Qualifications

• Seven years of progressive distribution/warehouse operations experience.
• Leadership or management experience of at least three years.
• Experience with budgets, labor planning, cost controls, and performance metrics (P&L preferred).
• Experience using KPIs to improve safety, productivity, inventory accuracy, customer service, and delivery performance.
• Experience with ERP, WMS, or other distribution management systems.

We’re hiring our first General Manager in the Columbus region to help launch one of Porter Pipe's largest distribution centers. What We’re Looking For

• A leader who coaches, develops, and holds teams accountable while earning their trust and respect.
• Strong business judgment and experience managing budgets, operational metrics, and financial performance.
• A solid understanding of distribution operations, including warehousing, inventory, fulfillment, dispatch, and customer service.
• The ability to set priorities, solve problems, and lead through growth and change.

• Wholesale or industrial distribution experience; PVF industry knowledge is a plus.

What You’ll Do

• Build relationships with customers, vendors, and local business partners, including through events and activities outside standard business hours.
• Plan for future staffing, capacity, and growth as the operation expands.
• Communicate clear goals and expectations while creating a culture of accountability, teamwork, and respect.
• Uphold Porter Pipe’s Core Values and ensure compliance with safety policies and applicable requirements.

What You’ll Bring

• A bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Supply Chain, Logistics, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
• At least seven years of progressive experience in distribution, warehouse operations, supply chain, or a related operational environment.
• At least three years of leadership or management experience.
• Experience with budgets, labor planning, cost controls, and performance metrics. P&L management experience is preferred.
• A track record of developing leaders, improving team performance, and building a strong workplace culture.
• Experience using KPIs to improve safety, productivity, inventory accuracy, customer service, and delivery performance.
• Experience with ERP, WMS, or other distribution management systems preferred.

Physical Demands

• Must be able to lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 50 pounds.
• Requires visual, hearing, and speech acuity to perform job responsibilities.
• Includes regular exposure to warehouse and outdoor environments, including varying temperatures, weather, noise, and fumes.
