Job summary

STA Family of Companies is seeking a General Manager in Altoona, PA or Williamsport, PA to oversee regional school transportation operations. The role requires leadership over facility operations, financial management, and customer relations with strong adherence to company policies.

The GM will travel up to 70% to support multiple locations, drive process improvements, and ensure contract compliance while reporting to the Vice President of Operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Logistics or equivalent.
• At least four (4) years related experience or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Prior experience managing multiple operating facilities or similar experience preferred.
• Must be willing to travel up to 70%.
• Must be able to pass state and federal background checks.

Pay Range: Based on experience

Must have multi-location experience and be willing to travel up to 70%.

We are seeking a General Manager. The General Manager will provide support and leadership to the Operations/Terminal Managers of school transportation facilities within the Region. The position ensures the highest quality of internal and external customer service is provided within the Region, ensures financial performance objectives are being met, and provides administrative support in the areas of management development and operational expertise, as well as regulatory and policy and procedure compliance in line with Company requirements. The position will frequently consult and work with the Directors of Safety, Human Resources, Maintenance, ROAMS and Finance. Service area TBD. This is a salaried, exempt position reporting to the Vice President of Operations.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Oversees all day-to-day facility operations.
• Provide guidance, leadership, management and evaluation of direct reports.
• Oversee all payroll, account receivables, account payables and month end requirements to ensure timely submission for all operations within your division.
• Develop and maintain close relationships with customers through routine contact and in-person visits.
• Attend school board meetings for customers as required, but particularly when matters involving Company contracts are to be discussed on the customer’s Board agenda.
• Knowledge and understanding of all School District contracts and facility leases.
• Ensuring that each of your School District’s student transportation designees are being supplied with all required information and assist in providing safe, reliable, on-time service through creating efficient and cost-effective solutions to routing issues.
• Directly assist locations with labor hours monitoring and control, routing and scheduling to ensure labor cost efficiency and achievement of financial plans.
• Management of monthly Profit and Loss Statements and Fixed Asset Reports to ensure Company objectives and annual plans are met or exceeded.
• Coordination and assistance with VP-Ops and Finance to develop annual financial plans for the areas they oversee. The GM position will manage, working with location staff, key indicators associated with those plans to include labor hours, asset utilization, A/R collection and expense controls.
• Develop charter and school business for assets during non-school days and summer months.
• Implement driver recruitment programs to ensure coverage of daily home to school routes and sufficient substitute personnel.
• Works closely with VP-Ops and Business Development on new business opportunities and contract renewals.
• Lead new location startups as needed within area of responsibility.
• Ability to work within established corporate guidelines.
• Develop and negotiate terms for large charter/community events with approval of the VP-Ops.
• Assist Regional Human Resources Director and STA Legal with personnel and legal matters from time to time.
• Support an effective preventative maintenance program as designated by STA policy by working with and through local management and Maintenance support staff.
• Understanding and enforcing all STA policies and applicable State and Federal regulations.
• Works with Safety staff to ensure that all employees are maintaining their credentials and are provided with all necessary job training.
• Routinely attends monthly driver safety meetings for area locations.
• Performs other duties as required by STA Senior Management.

Required Skills/Abilities-Essential Functions:

• Must be competent and knowledgeable in operations policies and procedures.
• Written and verbal communication skills, and customer service skills, are essential. Ability to deal with problems and find solutions.
• Must have knowledge of Federal and State regulations.
• Must be willing to work in excess of 40 hours per week and on some weekends.
• Must be highly motivated and capable of leadership by example.
• Must be committed to visiting and positively impacting operation sites within the region on a regular basis. Will attend administrative meetings and, at times, represent the location staff on behalf of the Region.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
• May be asked to obtain a CDL license.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Logistics or equivalent.
• At least four (4) years related experience or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Prior experience managing multiple operating facilities or similar experience preferred.
• Ability to travel for consecutive days, including overnight travel, as required to support business needs.
• Attend work on a regular and dependable basis
• Ability to successfully pass state and/or federal required Background Checks
• Ability to perform the essential functions of the job
• Ability to comply with all policies and procedures established by company
