The General Maintenance Worker performs general maintenance and repair of equipment and buildings requiring practical skill and knowledge in such trades as painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, HVAC, and electrical work.

Shift: Monday - Friday, 10:30am - 7:00pm

Pay Rate: $33.63 per hour total compensation

Essential Job Functions

  • Maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing: chillers and chilled water systems; building HVAC equipment; boilers and hot water heating systems; domestic water and plumbing systems; electrical systems including lighting, motors, starters, contractors, etc.
  • Replacing electrical receptacles, wires, switches, fixtures, and motors
  • Using plaster or compound to patch minor holes and cracks in walls and ceilings
  • Repairing or replacing sinks, water coolers, and toilets
  • Painting structures and equipment
  • Repairing or replacing concrete floors, steps, and sidewalks
  • Replacing damaged paneling and floor tiles
  • Hanging doors and installing door locks
  • Replacing broken window panes
  • Performing general maintenance on equipment and machinery
  • Maintenance of Heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.
  • Maintenance of concrete and asphalt roads, parking lots and sidewalks.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills, Experience, And Education

  • 2 years recent experience (within past 5 years) in building operations, repair, and maintenance or in an occupation such as a general mechanic, maintenance electrician, maintenance plumber, etc.
  • Exceptional communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Word, Excel and e-mail applications
  • Ability to organize and prioritize job duties and assignments
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to effectively utilize available resources to maximize productivity
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop; kneel; crouch; or crawl; and talk; or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and depth perception.

Working Environment

Work takes places in a commerical sized office building with indoor and outdoor exposure.
