Job description

Description General Purpose: Ensure that all equipment is operating effectively and efficiently. Must have excellent proficiency in preventative maintenance, over-hauls, modification, fabrication, welding and mechanical and electrical troubleshooting and repair. Must also have working knowledge of machine shop equipment and excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Perform preventative maintenance and/or repairs of production and processing equipment as well as utility related equipment, following all safety procedures.
  • Support the installation of new equipment.
  • Assist the operators with training or troubleshooting to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Ensure all repairs are documented.
  • Foster teamwork consistent with our company and plant mission, vision, and core values.
  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures.
  • Follow all Dairy Farmer of America GMP's and work in a manner consistent with all corporate and regulatory, food safety, quality, and sanitation requirements.
  • Maintain safe working conditions for employees and compliance with all state and federal regulations regarding health and safety issues.
  • Dedicate effort to safety as we expect every employee to leave work in the same condition as they arrived.
  • Exhibit the values and ethics of Dairy Farmers of America through honesty, discretion, and sound judgement.
  • Adhere to all Dairy Farmers of America Quality, Safety, and GMP policies and procedures and report any nonconformity.
  • Attend required training, including but not limited to Safety, GMP, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) and Safe Quality Foods (SQF).

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Two (2) years of mechanical/electrical education certification or equivalent work experience doing maintenance type work preferred.
  • SAP experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Must be able to perform electrical work (change pump motors, diagnose motor control problems, etc.).
  • Must know pneumatics, solenoid valves, and air cylinders.
  • Must be able to use standard maintenance tools in a safe manner.
  • Must have the ability to perform minor projects from planning to installation (Typically, this includes non-sanitary piping, drain lines, vacuum lines).
  • Must have the ability to perform routine repairs in a safe and timely fashion (rebuilding product/water pumps, boiler maintenance, HVAC, VFD's, sanitary valves, piping leaks).
  • Must have the ability to perform routine preventative maintenance on a variety of equipment, identify any abnormal conditions, and maintain appropriate records.
  • Must have the ability to perform basic welding for repair and fabrication (tig/stick).
  • Must have the ability to follow process control computer variables and schematics and diagnose system problems.
  • Must have the ability to assist other mechanics on more complicated repairs in a safe and useful manner.
  • Must have good interpersonal skills necessary to foster cooperation and effectively communicate with others.
  • Must be able to successfully complete a written maintenance test conducted by Maintenance Manager.
  • Basic computer skills.
