Job Description

JOB SUMMARY: The General Maintenance III/Electrician performs skilled electrical duties in the maintenance of buildings and facilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Additional duties may be assigned.

  • Effectively utilizes district technologies appropriate to the position and assumes responsibility for attending district training needed to successfully perform designated responsibilities as directed by the supervisor.
  • Maintains regular attendance.
  • Complies with State Law and District policies and regulations.
  • Repairs, installs, and maintains electrical systems including interior/exterior conduit, light and power circuits, motors, transformers, generators, switches, switchboards, distribution systems and control circuitry.
  • Installs and maintains electrical parts of shop machinery and power tools.
  • Replaces switches, receptacles, fuses, fixtures, circuits, fluorescent tubes and ballasts.
  • Troubleshoots electrical, fire and communication systems with or without prints, schematics and diagnostic electrical equipment.
  • Estimates cost of materials and labor in relation to jobs.
  • Works with high voltage.
  • Performs preventive maintenance and repair tasks.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in electrical work on a journeyman level.
  • Must have general commercial electrical experience.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a valid Arizona commercial driver’s license (CDL) with an air brake and combination vehicle endorsement.

As a condition of employment, all new hires must obtain and maintain a valid Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS).

LANGUAGE SKILLS
  • Ability to write reports business correspondence, etc.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administrators, staff and the general public.
MATH SKILLS
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Ability to interface effectively with other departments, school personnel, other maintenance staff, and business contacts from outside of the District.
  • Possesses and successfully uses the following skills:
  • Skill in electrical installation and repair at Journeyman’s level.
  • Knowledge of electrical tasks and test equipment.
  • Knowledge of electrical symbols and schematic diagrams.
  • Knowledge of department organization, methods, standards, and practices.
  • Knowledge of the theory of electricity.
  • Knowledge of Electrician’s tools, and electrical test equipment.
REASONING ABILITY
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule from.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Ability to accurately perform assigned tasks.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and School Board Policies.
  • Ability to promote harmonious working relationships with staff and outside business representatives.
  • Possesses excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal relationship skills.
