Job Description

JOB SUMMARY: The General Maintenance III/Electrician performs skilled electrical duties in the maintenance of buildings and facilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Additional duties may be assigned.

Effectively utilizes district technologies appropriate to the position and assumes responsibility for attending district training needed to successfully perform designated responsibilities as directed by the supervisor.
Maintains regular attendance.
Complies with State Law and District policies and regulations.
Repairs, installs, and maintains electrical systems including interior/exterior conduit, light and power circuits, motors, transformers, generators, switches, switchboards, distribution systems and control circuitry.
Installs and maintains electrical parts of shop machinery and power tools.
Replaces switches, receptacles, fuses, fixtures, circuits, fluorescent tubes and ballasts.
Troubleshoots electrical, fire and communication systems with or without prints, schematics and diagnostic electrical equipment.
Estimates cost of materials and labor in relation to jobs.
Works with high voltage.
Performs preventive maintenance and repair tasks.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or GED required.
Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in electrical work on a journeyman level.
Must have general commercial electrical experience.
Must have or be able to obtain a valid Arizona commercial driver’s license (CDL) with an air brake and combination vehicle endorsement.

As a condition of employment, all new hires must obtain and maintain a valid Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS).

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to write reports business correspondence, etc.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administrators, staff and the general public.

MATH SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Ability to interface effectively with other departments, school personnel, other maintenance staff, and business contacts from outside of the District.
Possesses and successfully uses the following skills:
Skill in electrical installation and repair at Journeyman’s level.
Knowledge of electrical tasks and test equipment.
Knowledge of electrical symbols and schematic diagrams.
Knowledge of department organization, methods, standards, and practices.
Knowledge of the theory of electricity.
Knowledge of Electrician’s tools, and electrical test equipment.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule from.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Ability to accurately perform assigned tasks.
Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and School Board Policies.
Ability to promote harmonious working relationships with staff and outside business representatives.
Possesses excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal relationship skills.
