Job Summary

The General Engineer is responsible for performing a variety of maintenance tasks to ensure the hotel’s facilities and equipment are in excellent working condition. This role involves daily property inspections, addressing maintenance issues, and maintaining all exterior landscape lighting. This person conducts room repairs, including furniture, fixtures, basic electrical, plumbing, and HVAC system repairs, under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor or Manager. Additionally, this position assists in ensuring compliance with city, safety, and ADA codes, performs scheduled maintenance operations, maintains tools and equipment, organizes storage areas, and coordinates with housekeeping staff regarding room conditions. The General Engineer also assists other staff as needed and adheres to all operational standards, policies, and procedures.

Responsibilities

  1. Communicates with Front Desk staff, Maintenance Supervisor/Manager, and/or the General Manager regarding ground-related problems or issues that need immediate attention.

  2. Performs daily inspection of the property for maintenance issues under the supervision of Maintenance Supervisor/Manager.

  3. Cleans and maintains all exterior landscape lighting.

  4. Performs necessary room touch-ups and repairs – including furniture, fixtures, basic electrical, basic plumbing, and HVAC system repair.

  5. Assists Maintenance Supervisor or Manager in ensuring the property passes all city, safety, and ADA codes.

  6. Performs all regularly scheduled maintenance operations (filters, paint, updates, furniture change-out, etc.).

  7. Maintains all equipment/tools; reports the condition of all equipment/tools and notifies Maintenance Supervisor or Manager when broken, lost, etc.

  8. Maintains organization and cleanliness of storage areas.

  9. Communicates with Housekeeping staff regarding room cleanliness/condition.

  10. Responsible for the maintenance of company vehicles under the direction of Supervisor or Manager.

  11. Assists other staff when needed.

  12. Adheres to all standards of operations, policies, procedures, manuals, training materials, memos, and verbal instructions.

  13. Requires 1 year of maintenance experience and 6 months of related experience in hospitality or service industry. Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
