Job summary

The Hartford is seeking a Team Leader Claims in Scottsdale, AZ, reporting to the Western General Liability Litigation Director. The role leads a tenured staff, resolving GL coverage, risk transfer, liability, and damages in line with corporate settlement policies.

Your responsibilities include guiding 7 GL Litigation Claim Handlers, training and coaching, directing investigations and settlements, and driving performance, policy compliance, and collaboration with internal and external partners.

Qualifications

• Prior high exposure general liability claims, and litigation experience strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of contracts and contractual indemnification
• In-depth understanding of coverage and risk transfer heading toward the development of a strong coverage acumen
• Prior management experience strongly preferred
• CPCU, AIC, SCLA or other professional designation, or working toward such designation preferred

Responsibilities

• Lead approximately 7 General Liability Litigation Claim Handlers with corresponding claim inventories.
• Train, coach and develop staff to enable optimal job performance and goals.
• Manage claim investigation, liability determinations, disposition and settlement per policies.
• Drive change and explain drivers and business goals.
• Evaluate staff performance and provide guidance.
• Serve as a technical resource for General Liability Litigation Claim Handlers.
• Analyze General Liability and/or personal lines coverage forms.
• Lead and manage staff with varying levels of experience and tenure.
• Understand customer service drivers and resolve issues with agents, brokers, sales, and product teams.

Reporting to the Western General Liability Litigation Director. The GL Team Leader is responsible for managing a tenured staff resolving GL coverage, risk transfer, liability and damages in compliance with corporate claim settlement policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Leading approximately 7 General Liability Litigation Claim Handlers with corresponding claim inventories
• Effectively training, coaching and developing staff to enable optimal job performance and the achievement of individual and professional goals
• Managing and directing claim investigation, liability determinations, disposition and settlement, in compliance with corporate claim settlement policies and procedures
• Managing and implementing change including explaining drivers and business goals
• Evaluating and managing staff performance
• A technical resource for General Liability Litigation Claim Handlers
• Understand and effectively analyze General Liability and/or personal lines coverage forms
• Experience in leading and managing all levels of staff relative to experience, tenure and professional development
• Extensive knowledge of customer service drivers and the ability to resolve customer issues, needs and concerns independently
• Experience with human resource policies and procedures and administration of the same
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written regardless of audience demographic
• Ability to partner with internal and external customers inclusive of Agents, Brokers, Sales and Product

Additional Information

• This role can have a Hybrid or Remote work arrangement. Candidates who live near one of our office locations (Hartford, CT, San Antonio, TX, Scottsdale, AZ, Lake Mary, FL, Naperville, IL and Alpharetta, GA) will have the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).Candidates who do not live near an office will have a remote work arrangement, with the expectation of coming into an office as business needs arise.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$86,400 - $129,600
