Job summary

Shirley Contracting Company in Virginia is seeking General Laborers to support diverse heavy civil construction projects across multiple sites. You will work outdoors in all seasons, assist with site preparation, and coordinate with equipment operators and crew.

The role involves lifting, basic tool use, PPE compliance, and following safety procedures. Typical schedule starts around 6:00–7:00 AM with overtime possible; benefits include health, 401(k), paid time off and paid holidays.

Qualifications

• Outdoor work in all seasons.
• Able to work with heavy equipment and communicate with operators, workers, and pedestrians.
• Comfortable at heights and in confined spaces with safety equipment.
• Ability to lift moderately to heavy loads (>15 pounds) regularly.
• Working knowledge of hand and power tools.
• Must pass pre-employment physical and drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Perform flagging, traffic closures and relevant tasks.
• Clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces, and remove debris.
• Install erosion and sediment controls (silt fence, etc.).
• Willingness to perform manual labor to support projects.
• Wear PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, vests, gloves).
• Work on a variety of tasks daily.
• Ensure health and safety policies are met.
• Establish and maintain positive relationships with customers and co-workers.
