Haverford College invites applications for a General Food Service Worker in the Dining Center. This full-time, benefits-eligible role requires early morning hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays to serve meals and maintain sanitation.

Total Compensation

• Hourly rate : $18

About the Position

The General Food Service Worker performs a variety of dutiesassociated with the preparation and service of meals and sanitationfor board plan, summer conferences, and special events within theDining Center. This position requires a high level of customerservice at all times, requires working early morning hours, eveninghours, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Primary Responsibilities

• Serve meals to customers, ensuring proper quality and portionsize, while maintaining the highest level of customer service
• Update temperature logs at each meal and communicate needs tocooks
• Maintain front of house serving areas including beveragestations, salad and deli bars, serving lines, snack and dessertareas, and dining room. Ensure areas are fully stocked, visualpresentation is correct, and areas are clean
• Work as a cashier for the Retail and dining hall operations.Swipe ID cards for students and guests who have a meal plan, andaccurately process all Cash or Credit Card transactions
• Assist in basic food preparation for meals. Tasks may includeslicing deli meats and cheeses; chopping vegetables; preparingsalads, desserts, and fruits; as well as cleaning work area andequipment used
• Familiarity with basic cooking procedures which may includesteaming, baking, deep frying, and grilling
• Assist in sanitation tasks of the dining operation. Thisincludes working in the dish room and pot room, maintaining trashand recycling areas in dining center, sweeping and mopping, andwiping tables and counter tops
• Adhere to standards outlined by sanitation program (Serve Safe)and local, state, and federal guidelines
• Assist in training of student worker staff
• Other duties as assigned or directed

The General Food Service Worker reports toOperations Manager & Supervisors.

Minimum Qualifications

• Current Serv Safe certification or the ability to obtaincertification

• Solid reading, hearing, and speaking skills

• Demonstrated ability to utilize dining service equipment suchas slicer, deep fryer, grill, and steamer

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior cashier experience

Special Requirements

• Must be able to work in extreme temperatures
• Must be able to stand for periods up to 4 hours at a time, bendover, lift up to 50 pounds, and climb stairs
