Job summary

Boston Medical Center (BMC) is seeking a General Cleaner to perform a range of housekeeping duties across the hospital. You will follow approved cleaning procedures, operate cleaning machinery, and maintain clean, safe patient and public areas.

Responsibilities include daily room cleaning, equipment sanitation, supply stock maintenance, and meeting room preparation. Strong English reading, adherence to protocols, and a customer-focused approach are essential for this essential support role.

Qualifications

• Ability to read and follow oral and written instructions in English.
• Ability to learn and perform basic housekeeping practices per hospital procedures.

• Maintains daily cleaning of assigned areas by following the approved hospital Cleaning Procedures.
• Operates vacuum cleaners, floor scrubbers, burnishers, buffers and wall washing equipment as instructed.
• Maintains stock of housekeeping supplies and maintains closets and equipment.
• Prepares patient rooms for occupancy after discharge or transfer, including sanitation of beds and furniture.
• Cleans and maintains refrigerators, stoves, ovens and other equipment.
• Sets up and cleans meeting rooms per department requests.
• Collects and disposes of all trash and waste as needed.
• Cleans and disinfects items such as sinks, floors, and showers; refills soap and paper provisions.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Maintains daily cleaning of assigned areas, by following the approved hospital Cleaning Procedures. Basic housekeeping tasks include, but are not limited to sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, scrubbing, polishing, dusting, and the cleansing of all designated objects/areas.
• Operate vacuum cleaners, floor scrubbers, burnishers, buffers and wall washing equipment and any other power machinery as instructed.
• Maintains stock of all housekeeping supplies in assigned areas and maintains housekeeping closets and equipment.
• Prepares patient rooms for occupancy upon patient discharge or transfer including, but not limited to the sanitation of patient beds, furniture and equipment.
• Cleans and maintains refrigerators, stoves, ovens, and other patient and non-patient care equipment.
• Sets up and cleans meeting rooms per specifications of department requester.
• Collects and disposes of all trash and waste as needed.
• Cleans, disinfects and sanitizes items such as bathroom sinks, floor, and shower (if applicable); fill soap dispenser, and paper towel and tissue dispensers.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• HS Diploma or completion of GED preferred

• Work requires the ability to read, follow oral and written instructions in English at a level acquired through the completion of elementary school
• Ability to learn and perform basic housekeeping practices and understands the policies and procedures of the hospital.
