Job summary

Northern Trust is seeking an AI Engineer – Generative AI & Product Engineering to design, build, and deploy enterprise-grade AI solutions. You will work across the full product lifecycle from architecture to production support, with a product mindset and focus on reliability and security.

You will integrate LangChain/LangSmith/LangGraph, Azure OpenAI, PostgreSQL/pgvector, and AKS to deliver scalable GenAI workflows and cloud-native services.

Qualifications

• Experience designing enterprise GenAI solutions from architecture through production
• Strong background in prompt engineering, evaluation, and observability
• Ability to integrate AI workflows with cloud services and data stores

Responsibilities

• Design and develop enterprise Generative AI and agentic AI applications using LangChain/LangSmith/LangGraph
• Build multi-step, stateful AI workflows with retrieval, tooling, and human-in-the-loop patterns
• Develop RAG solutions with PostgreSQL and pgvector for vector storage and semantic retrieval
• Integrate applications with Azure OpenAI and other LLM-based services
• Design reusable prompt patterns and scalable backend services using Python and FastAPI
• Develop observability to measure AI quality, latency, reliability, and retrieval effectiveness
• Containerize and deploy AI services to Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) and cloud environments
• Collaborate with product owners, architects, and engineering teams to convert requirements into AI capabilities
• Participate in reviews, testing, deployment, and production stabilization steps
• Evaluate emerging AI techniques and apply where they add product value
