Job summary

Nelnet is seeking a Data Pipeline Engineer to design and maintain data pipelines on Google Cloud for GenAI use cases. You will build ELT/ETL processes, classify data with Dataplex and DLP, and ensure governance and access controls for education data.

Collaboration with cross-functional teams ensures data readiness for AI solutions. The role emphasizes backlogged work, strong SQL/Python skills, and experience with BigQuery, Dataflow, and Airflow.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience building data pipelines and ELT/ETL for analytics or GenAI on a major cloud data platform.
• Strong SQL skills and Python for pipeline development and data transformation.
• Experience with data governance and classification tooling (Dataplex, Cloud DLP).
• Familiarity with FERPA and data privacy requirements in education/public sector.
• Ability to work from a scoped backlog and translate requirements into pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain data pipelines using BigQuery and Dataflow for GenAI use cases.
• Ingest, transform, and serve client data with ELT/ETL processes into analytics stores.
• Classify data with Dataplex and DLP; enforce data access controls and governance.
• Collaborate with GCP/Gemini and AgentOps teams to ensure data readiness for AI.
• Conduct data quality reviews and maintain documentation for audit purposes.
