Job summary

Capital One is seeking an AI Engineer 5 in the McLean, VA area to help build responsible AI systems and scalable AI infrastructure. The role involves collaborating with engineers, researchers, PMs, and product managers to deliver AI-powered products that transform how associates work and how customers interact with Capital One.

You will design, develop, and optimize AI components, leveraging a broad stack of Open Source and SaaS tools, and contribute to the long-term roadmap of foundational AI

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS or related field with at least 6 years of AI/ML experience
• 6+ years of programming in Python/Go/Scala/CUDA/Java
• Cloud deployment experience for scalable AI solutions (AWS, GCP, Azure)

Responsibilities

• Partner with cross‑functional teams to deliver AI-powered products
• Design, develop, test, deploy and support AI software components (LLM inference, agents, vector search)
• Use Open Source and SaaS AI tech (AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, PyTorch, VectorDBs)
• Invent foundation model optimization techniques to improve performance and cost
• Contribute to the technical vision and long-term roadmap of AI systems
• Lead multi-model orchestration pipelines and governance reviews
• Mentor engineers to elevate technical maturity
