Job summary

AHRC New York City is seeking a full-time Youth Workforce Development Academic Instructor for the Advance & Earn program on-site at Staten Island. The role focuses on GED preparation with engaging, student-centered instruction across core subjects and real-life literacy skills.

You will support out-of-school, out-of-work youth ages 17–24, with emphasis on equity, trauma-informed practice, and college/career pathways.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field required.
• Minimum 3 years of experience teaching youth or in GED preparation.
• Familiarity with GED curriculum and TABE testing preferred.
• Bilingual English/Spanish or other languages preferred.
• Strong commitment to equity and trauma-informed practice.

Responsibilities

• Administer TABE and use results to assess baseline skills and guide instruction.
• Deliver trauma-informed, GED-aligned instruction across Reading, Writing, Math, Science, Social Studies.
• Create individualized learning plans based on assessments and goals.
• Develop and implement engaging lesson plans with real-world relevance.
• Incorporate financial and digital literacy into GED prep.
• Track progress with assessments, portfolios, and attendance; report monthly progress.
