Job summary

Crawford Thomas Recruiting is seeking an Industrial Gearbox Repair Technician in Madisonville, KY to inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and rebuild industrial gearboxes and power transmission equipment on site. The role requires strong mechanical aptitude and practical experience with gear systems, bearings, shafts, and assemblies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and hands‑on troubleshooting skills.
• Understanding of gear theory, mechanical power transmission, and lubrication principles.
• Ability to read OEM service manuals, assembly drawings, blueprints, and gear specifications.
• Experience using micrometers, dial indicators, feeler gauges, and calipers.
• Familiarity with torque wrenches, bearing pullers, hydraulic presses, and gearbox repair equipment.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to perform precision mechanical work.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate with a maintenance or repair team.
• Ability to operate a forklift and overhead crane, or willingness to complete training.
• Availability to work 2nd or 3rd shift.

Responsibilities

• Disassemble, inspect, troubleshoot, and rebuild industrial gearboxes, including helical, bevel, worm, planetary, and spur gear systems.
• Identify mechanical wear, damage, and failures involving gears, shafts, bearings, housings, and seals.
• Repair or replace damaged components, including gears, bearings, shafts, seals, and gaskets.
• Perform shaft repairs, keyway machining, bearing installation, and housing repairs as needed.
• Use precision measuring tools to inspect components and verify proper tolerances.
• Set bearing preload, gear mesh, backlash, and component alignment according to OEM specifications.
• Reassemble and test repaired gearboxes to ensure proper operation, performance, and reliability.
• Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, OEM manuals, and equipment specifications.
• Maintain accurate repair documentation, parts records, and labor records.
• Follow established quality control procedures and workplace safety standards.
