Job summary

WM is seeking a Landfill Gas Technician I to operate and maintain the GCCS at our facility in Opelika, Alabama. The role focuses on ensuring regulatory compliance, data collection, and preventative maintenance of gas collection systems.

The successful candidate will have a valid driver’s license, the ability to work independently in field settings, and training in environmental science or mechanical systems. On-call readiness and safety compliance are required.

Qualifications

• Valid and unrestricted driver’s license is required.
• Preferred: experience in environmental fieldwork, construction, electrical, mechanical, or other hands‑on work environments.
• Technical or trade school training in environmental science, mechanical systems, instrumentation or related field is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain GCCS to ensure regulatory compliance and optimize performance.
• Calibrate, operate and maintain data collection devices for LFG collection.
• Collect and manage data from wellfield extraction and monitoring locations.
• Implement the GCCS preventative maintenance plan.
• Operate and maintain liquid management system pumps and measure liquid levels.
• Perform valve/vacuum adjustments and interpret data from wellfield systems.
• Use PVC/HDPE piping and related equipment for maintenance tasks.
• Complete WM Landfill Gas Technician I Training.
• Develop understanding of environmental regulations related to GCCS operations.
• Follow health and safety requirements and procedures.
