Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain endoscopy procedure rooms, equipment, and supplies.
  • Assist physicians and nursing staff during gastroenterology procedures (sigmoidoscopy, esophageal dilatation, endoscopy, colonoscopy).
  • Clean, disinfect, and reprocess endoscopes and related equipment per guidelines.
  • Monitor inventory and maintain adequate supplies for scheduled procedures.
  • Transport and assist patients throughout the procedural process.
  • Collect, label, and transport specimens as needed.

Beloit Health System is hiring a Gastroenterology Technician to join our Gastroenterology Department at Beloit Memorial Hospital.

  • Shift:1st shift
  • Schedule: 7a-4:30p
  • Hours per week: 40 hours per week

  • Department: BMH Gastroenterology

The Gastroenterology Technician assists physicians and nursing staff during diagnostic and therapeutic gastroenterology procedures. This role is responsible for preparing procedure rooms, ensuring appropriate equipment maintenance, assisting during procedures, transporting patients between the room and lab, and ensuring a safe and comfortable experience for patients.

The GI Tech will:

  • Prepare and maintain endoscopy procedure rooms, equipment, and supplies.
  • Assist physicians and nursing staff during gastroenterology procedures, including sigmoidoscopy, esophageal dilatation, endoscopy and colonoscopy.
  • Clean, disinfect, and reprocess endoscopes and related equipment in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Monitor inventory levels and maintain adequate supplies for scheduled procedures.
  • Transport, position, and assist patients throughout the procedural process.
  • Collect, label, and transport specimens as needed.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and comply with infection prevention and safety standards.
  • Deliver exceptional patient service while providing compassionate care.
  • Report any suspected defects or malfunctions to RN.
  • Ensure that labeled specimens are transported to the lab.
  • Strictly adhere to infection control policies including body substance isolation, blood borne pathogen precautions and aseptic techniques.
  • Maintain adequate levels and orderly storage of supplies.
  • Accurately completes patient charges, unit and patient records. Demonstrates active participation in unit QA programs.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • High school graduate with two-three years of experience in the health care field.
  • Able to perform simple math addition and subtraction as well as read and understand written material.
  • Must be CPR certified or certification eligible within three months of hire.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situation.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision.
  • Previous experience as a Gastroenterology Technician, Endoscopy Technician, Nursing Assistant, or in a related healthcare role preferred.
