Job summary

Siemens Energy, Inc. seeks a Materials & Failure Analysis Engineer to improve reliability of advanced gas turbine components. You will investigate material degradation, perform RCA, and provide technical recommendations affecting fleet operation, repairs, and product development.

The role requires metallurgy expertise, experience with nickel-based superalloys, TBCs, and high-temperature materials, plus collaboration across teams and suppliers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years in materials engineering, metallurgy, failure analysis, or materials characterization.
  • Hands-on experience investigating metallic component failures and degradation mechanisms.
  • Strong understanding of superalloys, stainless steels, heat treatment, coatings, and material processing.
  • Experience with SEM, EDS, optical microscopy, and metallographic analysis.
  • Ability to communicate technical findings through reports, presentations, and customer interactions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead failure analysis and RCA of gas turbine components to identify degradation mechanisms and failure origins.
  • Perform advanced materials characterization and fracture investigations using SEM, EDS, optical microscopy, and related techniques.
  • Serve as technical expert in materials science, metallurgy, and coatings (including TBCs).
  • Analyze failure modes related to fatigue, creep, oxidation, corrosion, and wear; propose reliability improvements.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, service, product engineering, suppliers, and customers on reliability initiatives and projects.
  • Author technical reports, assessments, and specifications, communicating findings to stakeholders while upholding Zero Harm principles.
