Job summary

NorthStar Energy Solutions, a Quanta Services company, is seeking a Cost Engineer/APM – Gas Operations to support the planning, coordination, and execution of gas distribution construction and maintenance projects in Grand Prairie, TX. This role works closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and field leadership to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget.

Candidates with experience in gas distribution or utility construction are strongly preferred, and travel

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred: Construction Management, Engineering, Finance, or related field.
• 0–3 years of experience in construction project coordination or cost control, preferably in gas distribution or utility construction.
• Working knowledge of cost tracking, budget variance analysis, or estimate-vs-actual reporting.
• General knowledge of gas distribution job site processes, including permitting, Right-of-Way, and crew logistics.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic field and office environment.
• Strong computer proficiency, with experience in scheduling software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel proficiency for cost tracking a plus).
• Understanding of billing processes, Accounts Payable (AP), and Accounts Receivable (AR).
• Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Track project costs against budget across labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor spend; flag variances and cost risks to Project Managers.
• Support cost forecasting and estimate-vs-actual analysis to keep projects within planned budget.
• Assist with change order cost impact review, including scope, quantity, and pricing changes.
• Support progress billing, invoice review/reconciliation, and coordination of AP/AR documentation with accounting and administrative staff.
• Maintain logs of project updates, resource delays, and permitting or Right-of-Way progress.
