Job summary

The City of Alexandria is hiring an Assistant Superintendent, Gas, to lead the Gas Department's construction, maintenance and operations. The role requires managing staff, coordinating contractors, and ensuring safety and efficiency in daily activities.

Salary ranges from $56,551.87 to $70,689.84 annually, with benefits including medical, dental/vision, retirement plans, and holidays. The position is subject to 24‑hour call and located in Central Louisiana.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, Chemical, or Petroleum Engineering or related field.
• Three years of progressively responsible supervisory experience in gas distribution.
• Inspector certifications for steel and plastic welding required.
• Office of Pipeline Safety certifications within six months of hire.
• Valid driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Directs and coordinates the operations of the Gas Department and contracted companies whose work includes construction, maintenance and operation of the gas system.
• Manages subordinate supervisory, technical and support staff; assign, review, and develop personnel; manage transfers/promotions and salary actions.
• Coordinates daily work activities; prioritizes tasks; monitors progress; assists with complex situations and provides technical expertise.
• Oversees projects to monitor progress and ensure compliance with standards; reviews reports and material requests.
• Designs, plans and implements administrative systems to increase production and reduce operating costs; oversees safety program.
