Job summary

The City of Alexandria seeks a Gas System Technician to install, inspect, maintain, test, and repair assorted natural gas equipment and to monitor gas pressure and volume in the system. The role involves 40 hours per week and is subject to 24-hour call.

Minimum qualifications include a High School diploma or GED with 3 years of related experience, plus a valid driver’s license and required certifications within six months of hire. Benefits include medical/dental/vision, retirement, and more.

Annual Salary Range: $36,103.86 - $48,745.63 Grade: 21

The City of Alexandria is seeking professional individuals to begin a career in the Gas Department, located in the heart of Central Louisiana, to perform advanced technical work that involves installing, inspecting, maintaining, testing, and repairing assorted natural gas equipment as well as adjusting and monitoring gas pressure and volume in the natural gas system. This position is subject to 24-hour call.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Installs, maintains, tests, repairs, adjusts, and inspects reliefs, regulators, control valves, meters, and stations; inspects work performed by contractors on regulator stations.
• Reads and interprets monthly charts and reports; computes bills.
• Prepares and processes necessary paperwork and reports as required by department policies and procedures.
• Receives calls and prepares work orders.
• Coordinates and performs any field work or troubleshooting required with SCADA System Operators on the SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School diploma or GED; supplemented by three (3) years experience in the testing, maintenance, and repair of regulators, reliefs, control valves, meters and assorted equipment in the SCADA network; or any equivalent combination, of education training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess a valid driver's license. Will be required to obtain a valid State of Louisiana driver's license at time of appointment and maintain throughout employment for this classification. Must obtain certifications as required by the Office of Pipeline Safety within six months of hire.

Work Schedule:

40 hours per week; Subject to 24-hour call and weekends.
