Job summary

The Garment/Upholstery Shop Foreman oversees the garment and upholstery shop at the Department of Corrections’ Pheasantland Industries, directing incarcerated workers in sewing, upholstery, embroidery, and related production for state and local clients.

Responsibilities include scheduling, safety, quality control, inventory management, vendor coordination, and developing workforce skills to prepare for employment after release.

Qualifications

• Experience supervising a production or correctional shop.
• Strong understanding of operations management, budgeting, and cost controls.
• Experience with inventory management and quality control.
• Proven ability to train and develop staff and incarcerated workers.
• Knowledge of vendor relations and customer service.

Responsibilities

• Provides daily direction and supervision to incarcerated workers to meet production goals.
• Interviews, selects, assigns, evaluates, and terminates incarcerated workers as needed.
• Trains workers in sewing, upholstery, embroidery, measuring, cutting, and related production skills.
• Coordinates workflow between garment and upholstery production, cutting, sewing, embroidery, and finishing.
• Develops production schedules to meet deadlines and optimize efficiency.
• Maintains customer communication regarding project specs, timelines, and status.
• Ensures quality standards and safety procedures and manages inventory and costs.
