Job summary

The Grounds Worker II / Gardener at Tryon Palace Historic Sites, Gardens is responsible for the care and appearance of lawns, trees and beds across Tryon Palace and the North Carolina History Center. You will contribute to event prep and seasonal displays, applying horticultural practices to maintain historical landscapes.

Monday–Friday 7:30am–4:30pm with weekend rotation; must lift heavy loads and obtain a NC pesticide license within 90 days. Sign-on bonus available.

Qualifications

Knowledge in plant maintenance procedures used in landscape installation and garden maintenance.
Ability to identify plants and diagnose plant problems and propose solutions.
Knowledge of safe handling and application of pesticides and fertilizers.
Certified Plant Professional preferred.

Responsibilities

Perform daily landscape care including weeding, fertilizing, mowing, pruning, and hedge maintenance.
Maintain lawns, marl paths, sidewalks and mulched beds.
Install and maintain seasonal horticultural displays for public viewing.
Propose planting plans and select appropriate plantings to enhance appearance.
Assist with special events by preparing gardens and grounds.
