Job summary

Biltmore Estate is seeking a Gardener I to support horticulture crews with plant installation, maintenance, and general grounds care. This entry-level role involves weeding, mowing, watering, pest control, and assisting with special projects and events.

Schedule typically 5 hours/day, 2 days/week, with potential up to 20 hours/week; background checks may apply. Selected candidate will join a team dedicated to guest service and stewardship of the estate, and will need physical capability to lift

Qualifications

• High school diploma.
• Experience with installation, maintenance and care of annuals, perennials, and shrubs; plant identification.
• Able to work independently or in a team and take initiative where appropriate.
• Must exercise good judgment.
• Demonstrated commitment to providing world-class guest service.
• Comfortable interacting with guests in a guest service environment.
• Ability to operate basic grounds equipment safely (tractors, mowers, etc.).
• Become WPS certified within 10 days of hire.
• Must have a valid driver's license and be at least 19 years old.

Responsibilities

• Performs basic ground maintenance: cleanup, trash removal, weeding, mowing, hauling.
• Assists in gardening: beds, planting, cultivation, weeding, watering, pest control, mulching.
• Recognizes common woody and herbaceous plants by name.
• Identifies plant problems and informs Supervisor.
• Works as scheduled including weekends, overtime as required.
• Operates basic grounds equipment after training with PPE.
• Uses hand tools safely (shovels, rakes, hoes, hand saws).
• Assists in applying fertilizers and/or pesticides under supervision.
• Uses proper watering techniques.
• Other duties as required.
