POSITION SUMMARY

The Gallery Programs & Creative Engagement Assistant helps bring Bennett College’s art, stories, and cultural heritage to life for fellow students and the public. Working primarily in the beautiful, historic Steele Gallery in Steele Hall, student assistants will help welcome visitors, support programs and events, and find creative ways to connect the Bennett community with the College’s cultural assets.

This position is ideal for an imaginative, dependable student who enjoys connecting with people, sharing ideas, and taking initiative. No previous gallery, communications, or event experience is required - creativity and a willingness to learn are most important.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Welcome Gallery visitors and help create an inviting environment.
  • Staff selected Gallery hours as part of a student team.
  • Assist with Gallery programs, tours, activities, and special events.
  • Help create flyers, signs, social media content, photographs, and other promotional materials.
  • Gather ideas and feedback from fellow students.
  • Help develop creative ways to connect students and visitors with Bennett’s art, history, and cultural heritage.
  • Assist with event preparation, exhibition setup, and deinstallation.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be eligible for federal work study and in good academic standing.
  • Responsible, punctual, reliable, and able to meet deadlines.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Able to follow directions while also contributing ideas and solving routine problems.
  • Friendly and comfortable engaging fellow students and visitors.
  • Interest in art, culture, storytelling, design, photography, social media, or events is welcomed but not required.
WORK SCHEDULE
  • Gallery coverage is shared by a team of student assistants. Students are not expected to be available for every Gallery shift.
  • Gallery hours will likely be Wednesday through Saturday, 11:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m., with one weekly evening opening from approximately 6:00–8:00 or 9:00 p.m.
  • We will work with each student to identify regular hours that fit her class schedule, availability, and federal work study award.
  • Occasional additional hours may be available for programs, special events, exhibition setup, and deinstallation, based on student availability and with advance notice whenever possible.
COMPENSATION

Hourly rate based on federal work study guidelines.
