The Department of Mathematics seeks applicants to serve as Graduate Assistant - Teacher, with a salary of $4000 per long semester. NOTE: These positions almost always go to a person seeking a Master's degree in MATH. The successful candidate for the GAT position should hold a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, or a comparable field. The position consists of pre-semester training (approximately two days per semester) and a weekly GAT meeting. In addition, GATs will assist their assigned faculty members in the classroom, lab, recitation, or office setting, depending on the needs of the class and the faculty member. Once a GAT has been properly trained/spent time "shadowing" their mentor teacher, the GAT may be allowed to work independently as the Teacher of Record for a course/courses. In order to teach college-level mathematics, all GATs must have a minimum of 18 hours in graduate math and agree to work under the supervision of a faculty member/team of faculty members. Until the GAT has earned 18 hours of graduate math, they MAY be allowed to teach a course/courses in Developmental Mathematics under the supervision of a faculty member. All codes of conduct and policies must be strictly adhered to, as outlined in the GA training manual. In addition, candidates for a GAT position also agree to complete all required training, both in person and online, in a timely manner, and abide by all local, state, and federal laws including but not limited to those laws pertaining to education, such as FERPA. The successful candidate will receive information about all required trainings and departmental expectations of professionalism. When the department begins the interview process, each candidate who is needed for an interview will be contacted directly. There is no need to follow-up in person in the department unless contacted by the Department to come for a meeting. All positions are security-sensitive. Applicants are subject to a criminal history investigation, and employment is contingent upon the institution’s verification of credentials and/or other information required by the institution’s procedures, including the completion of the criminal history check.
