Job summary

MNP is a fastener manufacturer based in Utica, MI. The Heat Treat Furnace Operator will run and maintain the heat-treat furnace, ensuring safe operation and precise temperatures to achieve required steel hardening and tempering for our products.

Candidates should have prior heat-treat experience, be self-motivated, and able to read work instructions, blueprints, and use precision measuring tools. The role requires teamwork, good attendance, and willingness to wear PPE in hot, oily, noisy

Qualifications

• Must have heat treat experience.
• Ability to read and understand work instructions, blueprints and customer requirements.
• Strong math and measurement skills.
• Able to operate and monitor furnace controls and temperature instruments.
• Willingness to wear OSHA/MNP required PPE.

Responsibilities

• Maintain furnace controls to meet process requirements.
• Inspect parts before/after heat-treating using precision instruments.
• Read and record computer controls for temperatures, soak times, and cooling times.
• Document non-conforming parts and issue rework or rejection notices.
• Maintain documentation of inspections and follow lot tracing protocols.
• Participate in 5S housekeeping.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Prior experience at any of the following companies is a plus! Specialty Steel Treating Inc, Superior Heat Treat LLC, Great Lakes Industrial Furnace Company, Temp Rite Steel Treating, or Wyatt Services Inc.

Job Schedule:

5PM - 5AM or 5AM - 5PM, 12 hours shifts; rotates between Week 1 and Week 2

Week 1: works Mon & Tues, off Wed & Thurs, works Fri, Sat

Week 2: off Mon & Tues, works Wed & Thurs, off Fri, Sat, works Sun

About the role of a Heat Treat Furnace Operator:

The Heat Treat Furnace Operator is responsible for operation and maintenance of the heat treat furnace, which is used to harden and temper the steel fasteners manufactured by MNP. This key role must ensure safe operation of the equipment and temperature instruments to ensure the steel stabilizes as required for the strength and utility needed for the specific fastener application. The Operator works with a small team and must be self-motivated and dependable.

Responsibilities of a Heat Treat Furnace Operator:

• Maintain furnace controls to meet specified requirements of the process
• Mechanically inclined
• Inspect parts before and after the heat-treating operation for conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments and visual acuity
• Read and record computer controls such as the carbon controller to ensure required temperatures, soak time, and cooling times are maintained
• Document parts not meeting specifications and issue rejection notices or rework orders as needed
• Maintain required documentation of inspections and follow lot tracing protocols
• Participate in 5S housekeeping
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

• Previous heat treat experience
• Self-motivated; able to work without constant supervision
• Excellent work ethics: dependable, reliable, follows established procedures

• Able to read work and understand work instructions, blue prints, technical documents and customer requirements
• Able to do math calculations and work with numbers, fractions, and decimals

• Able to commit to perfect attendance during the training schedule
