Job summary

The American Heart Association in the Bay Area is seeking an intern to support fundraising campaigns within the Bay Area Development Team. The role offers hands-on experience in a non-profit setting, with a hybrid Bay Area (Oakland) work arrangement and flexible scheduling.

You will assist with event planning, donor outreach, logistics, and campaign support, gaining practical skills in fundraising, communications, and data management while contributing to life-saving initiatives.

Qualifications

• Seniors or grad students pursuing a degree in business, nonprofit management, sales, marketing, event planning, public relations, or public health with a fundraising focus.
• Must be comfortable with outreach and public speaking (phone calls & emails to vendors & donors as well as giving presentations).
• Experience/interest in promotion, sales, or fundraising.
• Experience with event planning.
• Demonstrated skills in effective one-on-one and group communications and comfort with working professionally with all levels of community leaders, volunteers, and staff.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment managing multiple priorities involving multiple entities.
• Intermediate to excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office and Canva.
• Required Equipment: Reliable WiFi Connection.
• Must have reliable transportation or access to major public transportation.
• Minimum availability of 20 hrs/wk, M-F between the hours of 8:30am-5pm.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship, now or in the future. For any roles working remotely, the work must also be performed inside the United States, not in a foreign country.

Responsibilities

• Responsibilities include assisting with the development and implementation of fundraising activities, logistics, and administrative support for the Bay Area market.
• Work with the Development and Operations teams to support fundraising campaigns.
• Assist with event auction. Doing outreach for donations, organizing items, etc.
• Organize and plan health education events for companies.
• Assistance with pre-campaign planning, day of event execution, and post-campaign wrap-up projects.
• Execute external calls and emails to donors, volunteers, and 3rd party vendors.
• Work within event support systems to help manage data entry and run reports.
• Develop and update marketing materials for campaigns including save the dates, invitations, social media posts, volunteer rosters, and other needed collateral to assist in campaign promotion.
• Assist with volunteer management including prepping for and attending externally facing meetings (both in-person and virtual.)
• Conduct prospect research to generate new leads and compile information for fundraising campaigns.
