Job summary

Belltower Funds is seeking a Fund Accounting Senior Associate to support accounting, valuation, and reporting for 27,000+ funds on the AngelList platform. You will process post-close actions, review fee calculations, and interface with GPs and LPs to resolve inquiries.

You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive automation and improvements, handle non-automated tasks, and ensure GAAP-compliant treatment of portfolio investments. This remote-first role serves US and Canada-based teams.

Qualifications

• 3-4+ years of demonstrated operational excellence in the financial sector, including experience in Fund Administration and Public Accounting.
• CPA license (strongly preferred)
• Excellent communication with portfolio companies and investors, with meticulous attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate portfolio company events and data, and determine the appropriate valuation action for each investment.
• Help prepare both audited and unaudited financial statements and coordinate with audit firms.
• Ensure accounting treatment for portfolio investments complies with GAAP and evaluate special situations.
• Maintain the investment tracking system to stay accurate and up-to-date.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to push toward automation and process improvements.
• Take ownership of specific team functions/workflows and contribute to ad-hoc projects.

Belltower provides fund administration services to the venture space. Our coverage spans syndicates, venture funds, and first-of-their-kind rolling funds. Our full-service fund management offering streamlines the complexity of running a fund by integrating financial reporting, tax, compliance, portfolio management, and other services that managers typically have to cobble together from multiple vendors. Our services, combined with AngelList’s software, enable us to launch and scale a fund efficiently, allowing fund managers to focus on what they do best: investing.

Since 2019, Belltower has supported 27k+ funds representing over $25B in assets under administration, leveraging AngelList’s fund admin software to power the service layer for funds launched on the AngelList platform.

About the Role:

The Fund Accounting Senior Associate is a key member of the team responsible for supporting the accounting, valuation, and reporting functions for 27,000+ funds run on the AngelList platform. This position is part of our team that prepares fund accounting work that is not yet automated, resolves exceptions, addresses investor inquiries, and researches new technical issues.

You will work with other fund accounting team members and other cross-functional operations teams. You will review post-close actions in order to process valuation and accounting updates, review management and administrative fee calculations, perform ad hoc and scheduled financial reporting, and interface directly with both GPs and LPs with regard to any of the above.

You will:

• Evaluate portfolio company events and data, and determine the appropriate valuation action for each investment.
• Help prepare both audited and unaudited financial statements and work with audit firms to ensure completion of annual audits.
• Ensure that accounting treatment for portfolio company investments are in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and evaluate special situations.
• Maintain the investment tracking system so that it remains accurate and up-to-date.
• Work with engineering teams to continue the push towards increased automation and process improvement.
• Be directly responsible for specific team functions/workflows.
• Work on ad-hoc projects.

You have:

• 3 - 4+ years of demonstrated operational excellence in the financial sector, including experience in Fund Administration and Public Accounting, supported by a superb academic track record and a CPA license (strongly preferred)
• The ability to communicate effectively with portfolio companies and lead investors with polished professionalism.
• Superb attention to detail -- you need to be able to catch the corner case every time.
• Exceptional organizational skills and a love of process. We oversee a portfolio of investments in the thousands, which can only be managed systematically.
• Willingness to get your hands dirty: good data usually takes hard work and determination.
• Mastery of core financial concepts and a strong interest in the nuts and bolts of venture finance. Your day-to-day will touch on the legal, accounting, tax, and finance components that underlie the venture financing ecosystem.
• Great attitude with the ability to embrace regular change as we continually improve products and processes.
