Job summary

FORT Robotics is seeking a Functional Safety Manager to own all safety standards and lifecycle evidence, bridging IEC 61508 to customer safety arguments for our certified subsystems.

You will lead the safety plan, lifecycle gates, and certification body relations, ensure EU Machinery Regulation readiness, and translate real-world field data into the safety case used by third parties and customers.

Collaborative professionals who can influence without direct reports are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in functional safety as a practising engineer in regulated domains.
• At least one product taken through third-party certification end-to-end with ownership of the safety argument.
• Deep fluency in IEC 61508 parts 1–3, including Annex D requirements.

Responsibilities

• Own the safety standards picture across IEC 61508, ISO 13849 and IEC 62061 and sector standards.
• Serve as the named Functional Safety Manager: own the safety plan, lifecycle gates, competence records, and safety case.
• Hold the gates and ensure evidence sufficiency with independent review and escalation when needed.
• Author safety manuals and data packs for ISO 13849, IEC 61508-2/-3 Annex D content, and PFHD data.
• Manage certification body relationships end-to-end: scope, submission, findings, surveillance, and auditors.
• Drive EU Machinery Regulation readiness ahead of January 2027 and monitor standard revisions.
• Close the loop from field modifications to the safety argument and regulatory inputs.
