Job summary

Hidden Creek Elementary in Port Orchard, WA seeks a Paraeducator – Functional Adaptive (FA) to support instructional programs for students with special needs in general or self-contained classrooms. The role reports to the Building Principal and requires collaboration with teachers, families, and staff to implement IEP goals.

Hours are 6.25 per day, 181 instructional days plus holidays, with pay on an hourly schedule.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; 2 years of college or 72 quarter/48 semester credits
• ParaPro Assessment required
• Preferred: Paraeducator Certificate Program

Responsibilities

• Adapts classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives
• Administers immediate first aid and medical assistance as instructed by a health care professional for the purpose of meeting immediate health care needs
• Assists students, teachers, and other certificated personnel for the purpose of implementing instruction and/or IEPs
• Attends meetings and trainings for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions
• Developing under the supervision of assigned teacher, instruction to students in a variety of individual and group activities for the purpose of evaluating progress on IEP objectives and ensuring success in school
• Implements under the supervision of assigned teacher, behavioral plans designed by IEP team for students with behavior disorders or other special conditions for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts
• Maintains confidentiality at all times following HIPPA, FERPA, IEP for the purpose of guidance and in accordance with district, state and federal guidelines
• Maintains instructional materials and/or manual and electronic files/records for the purpose of ensuring availability of items; providing written reference; and/or meeting mandated requirements
• Monitors students during assigned periods within a variety of school environments for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive learning environment
• Observes and collects information to be recorded via data sheets for the purpose of supporting progress of individual students goals and objectives
• Provides clerical and general classroom assistance for staff for the purpose of documenting student progress and providing general support for classroom activities
• Supervises students in school setting for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive learning environment
• Works under both direct and in-direct supervision using standardized routines for the purpose of safe and positive learning environment
• Performs other related duties as assigned, may be assigned to a student as a 1:1 paraeducator for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit

Education
