Job summary

Springfield Public Schools is hiring a School Nurse (RN) for Mary Lynch Elementary School in Springfield, MA. The nurse will provide direct and indirect nursing care, maintain records, manage health resources, and collaborate with families, staff and health agencies to support student wellbeing and learning.

The role requires MA RN licensure, CPR certification, and DOE certification eligibility (BSN preferred). Salary is on the School Nurse salary schedule; starting date is immediate.

Qualifications

• Must have a current valid Massachusetts RN license.
• Minimum 1–2 years in child health or related field; 3 years in school nursing preferred.
• Current CPR certification.
• DOE certification eligibility; BSN required.

Responsibilities

• Assess and evaluate students’ health and counsel families.
• Maintain health records and evaluate school health programs.
• Coordinate health resources with home, community and hospitals.
• Develop an individual health care plan and coordinate with providers.
• Provide emergency care for students and staff on school premises.
• Administer prescribed medications with guardian and physician consent.
• Perform mandated screenings (vision, hearing, scoliosis, height/weight).
• Document information in student records per HIPAA/FERPA standards.
• Notify parents and staff of health concerns.
• Participate in school health activities and health education programs.
