Job summary

Virginia Beach City Public Schools is seeking a full-time Custodian to maintain the cleanliness of school buildings and surrounding grounds. The role includes routine cleaning, setup for events, and ensuring safety and readiness for the next day.

The position offers a stable schedule, benefits, and opportunities for growth. Required GED or some high school, preferred high school diploma and custodial experience. Hours are 10:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a wage range of $16.23–$23.67 per hour.

Qualifications

• GED or some high school required.
• Preferred: High School Diploma and custodial experience.
• Must have reliable attendance and ability to perform physical tasks.

Responsibilities

• Clean the cafeteria after each lunch bell, wipe tables, realign chairs, mop cafeteria.
• Pick up paper and trash in bathrooms and hallways, clean spills such as vomit and other messes.
• Pick up paper and trash around school and grounds.
• Dump trash in classrooms, clean chalkboards, sweep classroom floors, dust rooms, set up for the next day.
• Wash desks, move desks and tables as needed, stairs usage.
• Set up for PTA, special events, and meetings.
• Vacuum floors, shampoo carpets, wash walls, fix lockers, clean after-school rooms, wash windows.
• Mop bathrooms, mop and wax hallway and classroom floors.
• Secure and lock classrooms and outside doors at close.
• Clean the teacher's lounge.
• Perform related work as required.
