Job Description

We are seeking a full-time Plumber for Ames Community School District, starting May 2026. Under the direct supervision of the Director of Facilities, you will install, maintain, and repair plumbing systems and equipment across our district’s buildings.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions
  • Install, repair, and maintain plumbing systems, including pipes, fixtures, water heaters, and drainage systems.
  • Inspect plumbing systems to identify issues, leaks, and other problems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve plumbing malfunctions in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Perform all backflow testing in the District.
  • Respond to emergency plumbing issues, including leaks, clogs, and water pressure problems.
  • Maintain and repair restrooms, kitchens, and other school facilities that rely on plumbing systems.
  • Ensure compliance with local plumbing codes, health and safety standards, and district policies.
  • Assist with the installation of new plumbing systems or upgrades as needed.
  • Maintain and organize plumbing tools and equipment, ensuring they are in proper working condition.
  • Complete work orders and document all services performed in a timely manner.
  • Plow snow when necessary.
  • Prepare and maintain records to document work and repairs as needed.
  • Work with minimal supervision.
  • Perform building maintenance and other duties as required.
Qualifications
  • One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to five years of related experience and/or training in the field of plumbing; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Journeyman Plumbing License required.
  • Backflow Testing Certification preferred.
  • Must have a clean driving record with a CDL preferred.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds on and off throughout the day.

  • Proficient computer skills using email, spreadsheets, Google Docs, Microsoft Word, and the internet.
  • Willingness to work well with others and work as a team member.
  • Ability to work outdoors during inclement weather.

Compensation

$33.90 per hour
