Job summary

Omaha Public Schools is seeking a Plumber Foreman to lead the plumber crew at the Service Center in Omaha, NE. You will supervise tasks, plan work orders, and ensure quality maintenance and repair of plumbing systems across facilities.

The role requires journeyman experience, Master Plumber license, and strong communication. Local travel is expected; compensation includes hourly pay with foreman premium and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Minimum of five years full time journeyman experience in the commercial plumbing trade. Must possess a Master Plumber.
  • Must be licensed by City of Omaha and possess a State Backflow license.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
  • Ability to meet District’s insurability requirements.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and use of personal computer, Microsoft Office software, with work order software preferred.
  • Ability to pass functional assessment of physical abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, repair and install fixtures including: toilets, urinals, water fountains, water coolers and sinks.
  • Maintain, repair, and install valving including faucets, shut-off valves, and flush valves, both manual and electronic.
  • Maintain and repair swimming pool piping, filtration and chemical treatment systems.
  • Maintain and repair pumps including sewer ejector, circulating, sump and booster pumps.
  • Maintain and repair sanitary, storm and acid drainage systems including operating sewer machines to remove clogs, cleaning grease traps and catch basins, and thawing frozen piping.
  • Repair and install water, gas and drainage piping systems. Install hangers to support piping.
  • Winterize, reactivate and repair installed sprinkler systems including subcomponents such as heads, wall and yard hydrants, pumps and controls.
  • Maintain, repair and install water heaters (gas, electric, steam and flash types).
  • Plan, alter, and/or install piping, fixtures and equipment to support alteration or remodeling projects.
  • Install, test and repair back flow preventers.
  • Complete trade-related tasks assigned by the Maintenance Manager.
  • Communicate courteously and effectively with the public and with school personnel.
  • Enter time and materials and technician comments along with other information into a computerized work order system.
  • Maintain satisfactory attendance and work performance.

Job Description

Job Title: Plumber Foreman

Location: Service Center, 4041 N. 72nd Street, Omaha, NE

Reports To: Maintenance Manager

Work Schedule/FLSA Status: 261 Duty Days/ Non-Exempt

Salary Schedule: This is a full-time negotiated position. Salary grade: 50I. Foreman pay shall be an additional 9% of the regular hourly rate of pay for each hour of work as a foreman.

Position Purpose: This position functions as first-line supervisor for the Plumber Craft. Responsible for efficient and quality accomplishment of tasks by the plumber personnel; performs personnel functions such as employee counseling and rating. Will perform general maintenance and repair of deteriorated plumbing system components. This individual will work in a service-oriented environment, will routinely be required to solve problems, establish priorities and plan for completion of small-scale jobs. Duty may include evening shift assignment.

Essential Performance Responsibilities:

  • Maintain, repair and install fixtures including: toilets, urinals, water fountains, water coolers and sinks.

Additional Duties:

Performs other related tasks as assigned by manager, foreman, and/or administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Equipment: This position may require the ability to use bench vises, blow torches, bolt cutters, drain or pipe cleaning equipment, pipe or tube cutters, specialty wrenches, torx keys, hammers, screw drivers, pliers, sockets and drills. Must always comply with OPS’s guidelines for equipment use.

Travel: Local travel will be required.

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards:

  • Must be able to respond rapidly in emergency situations.
  • Must have organization, time management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Work in an office environment, school buildings and warehouse setting.
  • Physical ability to climb, kneel, stoop, walk and engage in heavy physical activities including exerting force equal to lifting seventy-five (75) pounds in performance of job-related tasks.
  • Ability to climb ladders with tools and equipment weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to work at heights of up to fifty (50) feet.
  • Ability to work in physically restricted areas and to work in confined space for extended periods.

Interrelations:

  • Contact with personnel within the district and with customers and vendors.
  • Will be working under the direct supervision of the department supervisor in order to complete day to day tasks.
  • Will be working with a diverse population requiring the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy.
  • Must understand and respond appropriately to customer needs and maintain a positive attitude with all customers and colleagues.
  • Expected to interact with all internal and external customers in a friendly, professional manner and provide quick, responsive customer service.

Employee Punctuality and Appearance

  • In order for schools and departmentsto operate effectively, employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday, unless the employee has received approved leave.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Terms of Employment:

This position is treated as a full-time non-exempt classified position. The terms of your employment will be governed by applicable state laws regulating employment in a Nebraska public school and Board of Education policies, as those laws and policies may change from time to time. If your position is represented by a collective bargaining representative, then your employment will also be governed by a negotiated agreement between OPS and that collective bargaining representative.
