Job Description

POSITION TITLE: Plumber, District Wide

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Location: Maintenance

REPORTS TO: Assistant Facilities Director

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12-month employment with benefits as specified in the Classified Agreement.

PURPOSE:

Licensed plumber skilled in performing plumbing tasks in accordance with standard practices and codes on steam boilers and domestic water/waste systems throughout the District. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: identifying repair and/or replacement needs; installing, repairing, and/or upgrading plumbing systems in accordance with accessibility requirements and health and safety codes; ensuring completion of projects and work orders in a timely manner with minimal supervision; assisting other skilled trades; maintaining District tools and equipment in an acceptable manner.

Essential Job Functions
  • Installs, repairs and/or replaces and otherwise maintains existing District plumbing systems (hot water heaters, drinking fountains, wastewater, water, gas, steam, valves, etc.) in a timely manner to minimize disruptions.
  • Analyzes blue prints, schematics, and drawings of plumbing systems to determine the most effective repairs of new or upgraded systems.
  • Diagnoses causes of problems and/or failures in plumbing systems for the purposes of identifying repair or replacement needs.
  • Estimates materials, labor, and/or equipment needed to complete assigned work for the purpose of obtaining necessary materials, time necessary and communicating needs with supervisor.
  • Oversees backflow inspections, and cleaning of grease traps at various schools.
  • Performs inspections of eyewash stations, and safety showers in labs as required.
  • Responds to emergency situations during and after hours in order to resolve immediate safety concerns and minimize disruptions.
  • Maintain District resources (truck, tools, etc.) in a serviceable and orderly fashion.
  • Assist with snow removal.
  • Other duties as assigned including but not limited to: moving furniture, chairs, risers and other District resources as requested.
Qualifications
  • Journeyman plumbing license required, master license preferred.
  • Class E driver’s license, with good driving history.
  • Good work attitude with a positive and pleasant disposition.
  • Self-starter; able to work independently.
