Job summary

UPMC is seeking a Full-Time Patient Care Technician in the 5 South Neurosurgical Unit at UPMC Passavant. The role provides direct patient care under RN direction, with shifting responsibilities in vital signs, telemetry, EKGs, and routine nursing support.

Responsibilities include assisting with ADLs, coordinating with the healthcare team, and maintaining a safe, clean environment while following infection control protocols.

Qualifications

• Provide direct patient care under RN direction.
• Perform vital signs, point-of-care testing, telemetry application, specimen collection, EKGs, and basic dressings.
• Assist with unit and patient needs including call lights, meal delivery, and patient transport.
• Maintain a safe, clean environment following infection control and safety protocols.
• Document care accurately and complete clerical tasks as needed.
• Support unit operations by stocking supplies and assisting with department activities.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team to support coordinated care.
• Demonstrate professionalism by building positive relationships and seeking growth opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Perform core PCT responsibilities, including vital signs, telemetry, EKGs, specimen collection, and basic dressings.
• Assist with patient transport, meal delivery, and responding to call lights.

• Document care and complete required clerical tasks promptly.

Shifts:

36 hours/week; rotating shifts

Title and rate of pay will be determined based upon individual qualifications, experience, and education. The minimum hourly starting rates for each level are as follows:

• Care Attendant: $18.19
• Nursing Assistant: $18.59
• Patient Care Technician: $18.99
• Patient Care Technician, Senior: $19.19

Responsibilities:

• Provide direct patient care under RN direction, including assisting with ADLs, procedures, and therapies
• Perform core PCT responsibilities, including vital signs, point-of-care testing, telemetry application, specimen collection, bladder scans, EKGs, and basic dressings
• Assist with unit and patient needs (e.g., responding to call lights, meal delivery, patient transport, and monitoring)
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized environment while following infection control and safety protocols
• Monitor patients and report changes in condition or equipment issues promptly
• Document care accurately and complete clerical tasks as needed
• Support unit operations by stocking supplies and assisting with department activities
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team to support coordinated care
• Demonstrate professionalism by building positive relationships, supporting team initiatives, and seeking opportunities for growth and development
• Respond to emergent situations and provide patient supervision or assistance as appropriate.
