Job summary

GREATPLAINS in Wichita, KS is seeking a licensed Medication Aide to assist in administering medications to residents as ordered by physicians, under supervision of Nursing Services.

Responsibilities include following policies, documenting administrations, reporting errors, and participating in QA programs to improve medication safety. Requires high school diploma, state-approved training, and licensed MA status. Strong teamwork and attention to detail are essential.

Qualifications

• Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be a licensed Medication Aide with state-approved training.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general documents and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Follow policies and procedures governing the administration of medications.
• Note and report errors in the administration of medications.
• Assist in developing and implementing procedures to prevent medication errors.
• Complete forms, charts, and reports as required.
• Maintain a productive relationship with nursing staff, physicians, and pharmacists.
• Report complaints or grievances to the Director of Nursing Services.
• Participate in facility surveys and QA programs related to medications.
• Prepare, administer, and document medications accurately and safely.
• Verify medications brought by new residents with the attending physician or facility pharmacist.
• Follow labeling and charting procedures and document discontinued meds.
• Document drug receipt errors with an observer/witness.
• Ensure medication is ingested or applied as directed and document refusals.
• Notify the Charge Nurse or Director of Nursing Services of any errors or reactions.
• Verify resident identity before administering medications.
• Record vital signs as required and follow self-administration policies.
