Job summary

Tigg's Canteen Services in St. Joseph, Michigan, seeks a permanent Lead Cook to help run the daily kitchen operations at Berrien County Jail. You will lead the kitchen team, prepare meals, and ensure safety and cleanliness in a structured correctional environment.

Requirements include a high school diploma, ability to lift 50 pounds, weekend/holiday flexibility, and the ability to follow recipes and policies; prior correctional food service experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Previous kitchen or food service experience preferred but not required.
• Strong communication and leadership skills are essential.
• Ability to read and follow recipes and written instructions.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Dependable and able to work well as part of a team.
• Willingness to work weekends and holidays.
• Flexible shifts between 8:30 a.m. and 6:15 p.m.
• Must be able to obtain clearance to enter the facility.

Responsibilities

• Leading, directing, and assisting inmates within the kitchen.
• Prepare, bake, and cook meals according to company recipes.
• Assist with meal planning and preparation.
• Follow all company policies, procedures, and food safety standards.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen.
• Assist with kitchen clean-up and other daily duties.
• Work effectively within a structured correctional facility.
