Job summary

Tigg's Canteen Services is seeking a Permanent Full-Time Lead Cook to join the team at the Berrien County Jail in St. Joseph, Michigan.

The Lead Cook will help lead the kitchen, prepare meals, and ensure high standards of food preparation and cleanliness in a structured correctional facility. Ideal candidates have a high school diploma, strong leadership and communication skills, ability to read recipes, and flexibility to work weekends and varying shifts; the role requires lifting up to 50

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous kitchen or food service experience is preferred, but not required.
• Strong communication and leadership skills.
• Ability to read and follow recipes and written instructions.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Dependable and able to work well as part of a team.
• Flexibility to work weekends and holidays.
• Flexibility to work varying shifts between 8:30 a.m. and 6:15 p.m.
• Must be able to obtain clearance approval to enter the facility.

Responsibilities

• Leading, directing, and assisting inmates within the kitchen.
• Prepare, bake, and cook meals according to company recipes.

About the Position

The Lead Cook plays an important role in keeping daily kitchen operations running smoothly. You will help lead the kitchen team while assisting with the preparation and service of meals. This position requires someone who can follow instructions, work well with others, and take pride in maintaining high standards of food preparation and cleanliness.
