Job summary

San Diego Miramar College invites qualified candidates to apply for a full-time Instructional Lab Technician / Trades assignment supporting the Fire Academy. The technician maintains classrooms, labs, drill grounds, props, and equipment, ensuring readiness for instruction and safety.

Under Fire Academy leadership, the role handles complex maintenance, fabrication, purchasing, scheduling, and recordkeeping while coordinating with faculty, staff, vendors, and students.

Qualifications

• 15 semester units of coursework related to a skilled trade and two years of field experience are required or equivalent.
• Desirable: instructional setting experience and knowledge of safety practices.
• Experience in coordinating equipment and materials in a teaching lab setting.

Responsibilities

• Prepare classrooms, laboratories, drill-ground areas, and storerooms for scheduled instruction.
• Coordinate equipment checkout, tracking, and return; document missing or damaged items.
• Maintain records for inspections, maintenance, inventory, scheduling, and timekeeping.
• Provide authorized work direction and training to hourly staff and student workers.
• Support faculty, staff, and students with equipment operation and safe practices.
