Job summary

San Diego Miramar College invites qualified candidates to apply for a full-time Instructional Lab Technician / Trades position supporting the Fire Academy. The role keeps classrooms, laboratories, drill grounds, training props, and storerooms safe, organized, and ready for instruction.

Under supervision, the incumbent performs complex technical, maintenance, fabrication, purchasing, scheduling, and timekeeping tasks to support instruction and ensure operational readiness.

Qualifications

• 15 semester units of coursework related to a relevant skilled trade and at least two years of work experience.
• Experience in an instructional setting is desirable.
• Experience inspecting, maintaining, servicing, troubleshooting, or repairing mechanical, electrical, motorized, or other specialized equipment.
• Experience fabricating, assembling, modifying, or repairing training props, instructional aids, fixtures, or storage systems.
• Experience with inventory control, purchasing, receiving, vendor coordination, asset tracking, warranties, maintenance records, and supply planning.
• Experience coordinating schedules, assignments, employee hours, time records, or other workforce logistics.
• Experience supporting a complex instructional laboratory, training center, industrial shop, warehouse, fleet, or similar environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Adobe applications, spreadsheets, timekeeping systems, and digital recordkeeping.

Responsibilities

• Keep classrooms, laboratories, drill grounds, and equipment areas safe, organized, and ready for instruction.
• Coordinate purchasing, scheduling, timekeeping, and recordkeeping for instructional support.
• Support diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in the lab environment.
