Job description

De La Salle Institute, a Lasallian Catholic high school in Chicago, is seeking a passionate and experienced high school English teacher to join our Language Arts Division. If you are committed to academic excellence, student voice, and a mission rooted in faith and service, we invite you to apply.

Position Overview:

This position involves teaching a range of English courses, which may include AP English Literature and/or AP Seminar, as well as a Journalism course that produces the school’s yearbook. The ideal candidate will bring strong instructional skills, creativity, and a collaborative spirit to both traditional English classrooms and a project-based journalism environment.
Experience teaching AP courses and/or leading a journalism class that produces a school yearbook is strongly preferred.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in English, Journalism, or a related field
• Valid Illinois teaching license
• Experience teaching high school English
• Experience with AP English Literature and/or AP Seminar
• Experience advising a yearbook or teaching journalism (preferred: familiarity with platforms like Walsworth)
• Strong organizational, communication, and classroom management skills
• A demonstrated commitment to Catholic education and the Lasallian mission

Responsibilities:

• Teach a variety of English courses, including AP-level classes based on experience
• Teach one section of Journalism, which produces the school’s yearbook
• Guide students in critical reading, writing, speaking, and media literacy
• Support students in visual storytelling, photography, design, and publication
• Foster student leadership and collaboration in the yearbook production process
• Collaborate with department colleagues and contribute to school-wide initiatives
